Come join us on Saturday, April 4th, at noon at American Top Team – Connecticut in Danbury for Roll 4 Orphans!
We’re raising money to support the Foundation 4 Orphans alongside the awesomeness of jiu-jitsu to fund repairs and security enhancements at the Dondo House for Children, an orphanage in Mozambique.
The orphanage was hit hard by Cyclone Idai this time last year. (A cyclone is the term for a hurricane in Africa.) The roofs are back on, but there’s a lot left to do: windows were broken and remain so; structural damage to the kitchen and education buildings still needs to be fixed; basic security enhancements are still lacking (solid locks on the doors, bars installed over the replaced windows to prevent a break-in). This video below shows the property.
The total cost of all this is $6,000 – we’re looking to raise anything we can towards these objectives. What if we raise anything past that target? There’s a long list of needs at the Dondo House for Children, including building a wall around the property, as the orphanage is near a major roadway that gets a lot of foot traffic. Also, the orphanage is growing – we heard just recently that eleven more kids are in the process of joining the twenty-three already there.
And, we’re rolling on 4/4 in celebration of Coach Luigi’s birthday!
So, come on out on April 4th and join us! It’ll be awesome to have some time on the mats while joining together towards making life a little easier for some needy kids on the other side of the world. They’ve got dreams about the future and what careers they want to pursue when they grow up – we can work together now to make their reaching those dreams a little more comfortable and secure.
The Foundation 4 Orphans mission is to lift communities by serving orphans. We work through the United Methodist Church in partnership with local governmental officials and church leaders in Mozambique, and students, professors and administrators in Iraq.
We are about to expand to the Democratic Republic of the Congo. In Mozambique, we construct orphanages in locations the government and church has selected. This will be the same model we use in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. In Iraq, we have established a mentor program between university students and orphans.
