BJJ Camp for Instructors – Danbury, CT
We are glad to announce that we will be back holding our Annual ATT CT / Kore BJJ BJJ Camp at our school in Danbury, CT, in December 2021.
This year we will emphasize the pedagogical approach applied to martial arts instruction. Our goal is to educate our assistant instructors, instructors, and professors with teaching techniques focused on student’s individuality.
Linda Mondelli has been developing the pedagogical curriculum and instruction portion of the 2021 BJJ Camp. Linda has vast experience formatting and developing training/course curriculums for corporations and schools. She holds a Master’s Degree in Pedagogy, and together we are creating a new approach in martial arts instruction.
What is Pedagogy
Pedagogy is most commonly understood as the approach to teaching. It is the theory and practice of learning and how this process influences and is influenced by learners’ social, political, and psychological development. Pedagogy, taken as an academic discipline, is the study of how knowledge and skills are imparted in an educational context, and it considers the interactions that take place during learning. The theory and practice of pedagogy vary greatly, as they reflect different social, political, and cultural contexts.[1]
Pedagogy is often described as the act of teaching.[2] The pedagogy adopted by teachers shapes their actions, judgments, and other teaching strategies by considering theories of learning, understandings of students and their needs, and the backgrounds and interests of individual students.[3][4] Its aims may range from furthering liberal education (the general development of human potential) to the narrower specifics of vocational education (the imparting and acquiring specific skills). Conventional western pedagogies view the teacher as knowledge holder and the student as the recipient of knowledge (described by Paulo Freire as “banking methods”[5]). Still, theories of pedagogy increasingly identify the student as an agent and the teacher as a facilitator.”
